Summer Jams 2

FTR08 / Smooth Oscillator
"Summer Jams 2" EP

Released July 20, 2022

Smooth Oscillator is an alias for SomeJerk. As a child, naptimes often consisted of the soundtrack to the Weather Channel. In these dream states, infused with woozy smooth jazz and surreal visual surroundings, a separate voice was being raised from a distance.

At times leaning towards downtempo and triphop vibes, "Summer Jams 2" delivers Golden era 90's boom bap drums meet with booming basslines, trippy keyboards and sporadic chunks of rap lyrics scattered about like hiphop bacon bits.

"Missing Consciousness"

Banging and clanging as always, SomJerk laces frantic breakbeats with booming 808 kick drums as a vocal sample asks the big questions.

"Just Say Jungle"

Released March 1, 2020

Keeping the vibes moving in a future retro direction, SomeJerk presents "Just Say Jungle", a slower paced jungle drum and bass slammer hearkening back to the glory days of the mid 90s, when jungle was evolving in to what we know now as drum and bass music.

Shout to Konkrete Jungle, New York, for which the name of this tune is borrowed from.

Tomorrow Is Yesterday

FTR01 / SomeJerk
"Tomorrow Is Yesterday"

Released February 1, 2020

Kicking off Futura in January 2020, SomeJerk presents two 90's leaning drum and bass tracks.

Punchy drums and pulsating bass on "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" meet cascading pads and a sample from one of TV's greatest shows, warning that "this is a sign of things to come".

On the flip, more dusty old school drum and bass styles with "It Is What You Think It Is". Asking for more attention than the A side, the companion track winds through frantic cowbells and choppy breaks before finally releasing an onslaught of 808s and more breaks. Layering staccato rhythms with dub techno pads while the vocal tells you to just "roll with it".

Definitely a track for fans of cowbells and bass!

SomeJerk – Do You Remember

FTRX1 / SomeJerk
"Do You Remember?"

Released January 14, 2020

The first offering from Futura arrives as "Do You Remember?", a track asking a rhetorical question. Whatever populates as an answer, despite any real context, is the answer.

Ominous pads give way to beats that are so broken, they make you wonder if they were ever complete. The spaciousness is infected by a dark, growling reese bassline, pushing the limits of sub bass while reluctant drums bang on.
